Parents and Community

Community powered

Even though Young Life is especially for kids, parents and other adults in the community are important to Young Life. Adults can support Young Life in a variety of ways — by becoming a volunteer leader or committee member, by attending a Young Life fund-raising event, by hosting Young Life or by simply telling others in the community about Young Life and its commitment to kids.

Keeping kids safe

An important part of our committment to kids is how we keep kids safe. Our staff and volunteer leaders know they are responsible for modeling lives of hope and integrity.Young Life’s Human Resources department has developed missionwide policies and procedures to ensure that kids are protected when they are with Young Life staff and/or leaders as well as when kids are part of Young Life’sponsored activities.

Camping at a glance

Since its first camp opened in 1950, Young Life has strengthened its commitment to reaching kids through its world-class camping ministry. Last year, more than 100,000 kids attended one of Young Life’s camps for either a weekend camp during the school year or a week-long camp during the summer. These kids experienced the time of their lives and had the opportunity to open up to their leaders sharing their struggles, fears and thoughts about God. Young Life camping has, and continues to be, an effective means for sharing the Gospel with teens.

During a week full of high adventure and fun, kids are given the chance to build strong friendships, hear the message of Christ’s unconditional love for them and have someone walk alongside them as they take their first steps in pursuing a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Every year, kids are challenged in new ways through the thrills of rock climbing, rappelling, horseback riding, parasailing and many other adventures depending on the camp they attend. Each camp has its own “’personality” and set of amenities.

It takes an army to run a camp, and volunteers work around the clock to give teenagers the best week of their lives. In addition to man power, more than 6,000 scholarships are provided to underprivileged kids each year, making sure that every kid has the opportunity to go to camp.
